Program purpose

Maintain Training Currency

The transition program supports current VET professionals who already hold TAE40110 or TAE40116 and need currency in contemporary training and assessment practice.

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been the industry standard for accredited vocational trainers and assessors for over 20 years. It is the requirement for trainers and assessors who assess any portion of a nationally accredited qualification. Maintaining currency in the training and assessment qualification can be highly beneficial for VET professionals.

Knowledge tests Open-book short answer and self-marking questions.
Skill demonstration Demonstration of skills to an observer through observations or video submissions.
Portfolio evidence A collection of applied evidence gathered through practical projects.
Student resources

Resources, LMS and Devices

Students receive access to core learning materials and online folders for assessments, templates and supporting resources.

Textbook

SPECTRAINING Directors Dan and Terry Hill, with co-author Lee Perlitz, created Vocational Training and Assessment 3rd Edition (2023).

Each student receives an electronic copy at the start of the course and can refer to it throughout the program. The facilitator will ask participants to refer to the textbook to answer most questions raised during the program.

Participants are encouraged to search online for resources, definitions and examples throughout the course.

Device access

You will be expected to have access to a device with Internet, a PDF reader and Microsoft Word and PowerPoint throughout this program.

Online resources

Upon enrolment, students receive a link to the online learning portal: https://learn.spectraining.edu.au.

The LMS contains the learning and assessment resources needed during the program. Students are encouraged to access and familiarise themselves with the folder structure so they can locate assessments, templates and learning resources as needed.

Workshop pathway

5 Days of Virtual Workshops

The self-paced option does not require attendance at virtual workshops, but can still use the schedule for personal time management.

Workshop dates

The course is designed to achieve a high level of transferability to the workplace. This is achieved over 5 days of workshop attendance with the majority of assessment completed in class, allowing for immediate feedback and effective assessment of work.

Workshop preparation

Prior to your workshop, access the LMS, download the third-party reports and review the training delivery evidence requirements. Prepare and deliver a 30-minute training session based upon a unit of competency and video your session for submission.

Virtual classrooms

Learn Without Travel

Virtual classrooms provide the same nationally accredited standard of training and assessment as a standard face-to-face environment.

What you will need

  • A computer with a webcam and a relatively quiet space
  • Reliable broadband internet access
  • Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, or compatible software

How sessions run

  • You will receive a Zoom or MS Teams meeting invitation before the first workshop.
  • Your facilitator will greet you and provide instructions for the day’s sessions.
  • Each session includes learning content discussions, demonstrations, question and answer discussions, assessment activities and regular breaks.

Group work

Break-out rooms are used when group work is required. Many assessments are completed during the workshop, including knowledge questions and content for workplace templates.

If you choose self-paced study, you will need to arrange a workplace or other colleagues for some group-based assessment work.
